What is Dot Pitch (Pixel Pitch)?

Dot pitch (also known as pixel pitch on modern LCD and OLED panels) is the distance between the centers of two adjacent pixels on a display. It directly determines physical pixel size.

While PPI (Pixels Per Inch) tells you how many pixels fit into one inch of screen space, dot pitch tells you the physical dimension of each individual pixel in millimeters. They are inverses of each other: as PPI goes up, dot pitch goes down.

Worked Example: 27″ 4K Display (163.2 PPI)

Dot Pitch = 25.4 ÷ 163.18 = 0.1557 mm In micrometers: 0.1557 × 1,000 = 155.7 μm Each pixel is roughly 0.156 mm wide and 0.156 mm tall.
